Spoonbill at Dusk
As the warm afternoon sun shoots down its golden rays of light, the ever-beautiful spoonbill does not rest. Many long days are spent gathering sticks and nesting material to create the most perfect little nest which will soon host the next generation of these royal-looking pink birds. Although their days are spent foraging in the mud, cleaning their nests of debris, and gathering more and more sticks to further fortify their homes, they still hold a very regal stature, one unparalleled by any bird.
The Roseate Spoonbill, the most beautiful bird in all of Florida.

A short statement of the proposed artwork's relationship to the theme of "Light and Shadows" (150-500 words).
Taken in the warm afternoon sun, this photo shows the stark contrast between the light and shadow that can be created in an image. The contrast in this photo was created by shooting with extremely dark and shadowed mangrove trees as the background and afternoon sun that shone down onto the spoonbill, but not the mangroves behind it. Due to the sun's position in the sky, the head of the bird which was hidden by its wing was plastered in the form of a shadow. This photo very blatantly shows "shadow" in the negative space of the photograph and in the shadow of the bird's head which is seen on the bird's wing and shows "Light" by the contrasting light which shines bright through the bird's wings.
