Light at the End of the Tunnel

Light at the End of the Tunnel, 2D Fine Art
Light at the End of the Tunnel
A photo of my wife in a sidewalk tunnel we randomly found while exploring on a recent vacation.

2D Fine Art (Photography)    16 x 20 x 1    $200.00

A short statement of the proposed artwork's relationship to the theme of "Light and Shadows" (150-500 words).
I love this photo's symmetry and light play. The concentric circles shrink from the darker foreground to the washed-out light of the background in the distance that she's walking towards. I find with a lot of my photos that I love symmetry — power lines shrinking into the distance, a line of lights along a sidewalk and so on. This photo certainly falls into that category of symmetry, not just with the circles of the corrugated metal, but with the darkness steadily growing towards the light. It's almost like a portal to another dimension or a tunnel to the afterlife. This one is a nice reminder to me that there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, and even though it's one that sometimes we might not be able to see like this, we just have to keep on walking — even if we have to put out a hand to steady ourselves.
