A short statement of the proposed artwork's relationship to the theme of "Light and Shadows" (150-500 words).
Using the antebellum library's glass floors, Molly was illuminated from below and above in order to bring every nuance of the body to light...and shadow. Using this technique, I was able to 'paint' the details of the muscles, ribs, and hair. In the 1800's, Jones Memorial Library depended on daylight to provide lighting to the center of the library, so that patrons could read the spines of the books on the shelves. To that end, the library was built with frosted glass floors, so I installed lighting to get at least two opposing angles of light in order to generate great detail on my model. The whole day I used primarily natural light, but I could not resist using those beautiful glass floors as a diffuser and also a light table at the same time.
