Truth Reflected, 2021
Truth Reflected, created in 2021, is made with Transparent M. Graham watercolors on Arches 300lb. Cold Press watercolor paper. Truth Reflected was created utilizing various watercolor techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry, charging, and dry brushing. I opted for a fresh single bold wash for the flower's shadow, which created a beautiful juxtaposition against the multi-layered rich black background that was created with a customized mixed black to compliment the palette of the flower.

A short statement of the proposed artwork's relationship to the theme of "Light and Shadows" (150-500 words).
Life can offer us seasons of shadows and darkness. These times can feel overwhelming and may even distort our truth. In times of trouble, I imagine a pristine white flower emerging out of the dark; as it opens up, it begins to reflect my truths in various glowing colors. Like stained glass, they glow the profound truths that we are loved, not alone, and worthy just as we are. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5. Chiaroscuro allows the viewer to peer into a moment and be a part of the tension for a brief second. It was my intention with Truth Reflected for you to share that moment with me.
